A needle holder, also called a needle driver or needle holder, is used to grip suture needles when suturing tissues. A needle holder is a surgical instrument, similar to a hemostat, used by physicians and surgeons to hold a suture needle for wound closure during suturing and surgical procedures.

The parts of a simple needle holder are the jaws, joint and handles. Most needle holders also have a clamping mechanism that locks the needle in place, allowing the dentist or user to maneuver the needle through various tissues. To hold the needle firmly, the jaws are often textured and short compared to the shaft (with the force applied increasing according to the principle of a lever).
