Rubber dam clamps, also known as Cofferdam clamps or molar clamps, are available in various shapes and sizes. A rubber dam clamp is used in combination with a rubber sheet, also referred to as a rubber dam or cofferdam.
The rubber dam clamp must grip the tooth at certain critical contact points. The clamp is primarily intended to hold the rubber dam in place, which it does through its spring action below the contour height of a tooth. It can also help to slightly retract the gum.
Thanks to the use of a rubber dam in combination with the rubber dam clamp, the tooth or molar is isolated from the oral cavity to create better visibility during treatment. This keeps the tooth or molar dry and free from bacteria and prevents the swallowing of small materials, including irrigation fluids, medications, or debris.
